§ 03 — How We Fish
Precision trolling.
Dialed depth.
Cover water.
We dial in depth, speed, and presentation to match the temperature zones salmon prefer — typically 53°F water for King salmon. On Erie, walleye respond to slow trolling with worm harnesses and crankbaits at 1.5–2 mph. We don’t run a stock spread — we read the conditions and rebuild the program every trip.
01
Downriggers
Get the bait to exact depth where fish are feeding. The basis of every Lake Ontario salmon spread we run.
02
Planer Boards
Spread the presentation wide of the boat — 4 to 6 lines fanned out, covering the water column laterally.
03
Dipsy Divers
Add depth variance and side coverage to the spread. Different lure profile, different strike trigger.
§ 04 — A Day on the Boat
Every charter
runs the same way.
01
Depart 6:30 AM
Meet at the marina. Coffee on board.
02
Run Out
Captain reads structure on sonar, finds thermocline, picks the first spot.
03
Rig Up
Crew sets the spread — 6–8 rods, multiple depths, fanned wide.
04
Fish
First bite usually inside 30–60 minutes of setting the spread.
05
Land
Quick hands: net, photo, box or release.
06
Clean & Pack
Filleted, bagged before you head home.
